DESCRIPTION
Answers phone in a polite and helpful manner; takes and routes messages correctly and promptly. Returns each call promptly when messages are left. Documents phone contacts as appropriate. Provides assistance to nursing staff as needed with routine clerical functions in the nursing station and on the unit. This includes, but is not limited to:
Gathers information needed for compiling data related to referral analysis and completes monthly report by the 10th of each month for the previous month. Compiles data for monthly reports and forwards to Clinical Director in a timely manner and in a high degree of accuracy.
Maintains charts, processes department admissions to SCU. Enters orders in Meditech and notifies nurses of new orders. Discharge charts are placed in appropriate order and put in basket for medical records by end of shift, with charges entered into Meditech. Vital signs and interventions are recorded on patient record per department guidelines. Requests and retrieves medical records as requested. Develops and keeps current all forms used in the office. Administrative guidelines followed for maintenance of charts.
Organizes, cleans, and maintains unit work area, supplies, and equipment. Assists with maintaining PAR levels and ordering supplies. Assists admissions department in rapid registration of multiple urgent/emergent patients. Organizes and performs transportation needs of patients through scheduling the most efficient routing and securing vehicles for this purpose. Reviews supplies monthly & orders material. Is aware of any financial constraints concerning supplies. Fills out supply request forms & obtains appropriate signatures.
Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by reporting equipment that is out of order, reporting other problems to management. Maintains positive working relationships with other hospital staff and outside referral sources. Conduct on-and off-site reflects favorably on Facility. Maintains proper boundaries when interacting with patients; seeks direction or clarification from supervisor when necessary. Maintains patient information confidentiality. Understands the importance of maintaining the dignity of the psychiatric patient. Communicates with non-judgmental statements regarding client behavior. Follows philosophy of unconditional positive regard toward patients.
Is able to process referral calls. Capable of gathering clinical data from patients and families and relating pertinent information to Nursing and program staff. Verifies that all patients are present in the facility under the provisions of the State Mental Health Codes for psychiatric patients. This includes making sure that all time frames are met in the conversion of 1013s to 1014s. Photocopies records per request in timely manner. Prepares appropriate documents for patient transfer.
Demonstrates competency in the following areas of patient care:
Able to use copier, fax, and computer. Maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with Protected Health Information (PHI).
Education/Qualifications:
High School Diploma, or GED. Prior experience with computers and medical terminology preferred but not required.
